1. Connect the printer to another computer on the network, set it up as a shared printer on the computer to which it is connected, and as a network printer on any other computer that will access it across the network.
2. Buy a print server, connect the printer to the print server and add it to the network (be careful with this option because some printer servers will only work with some printers).
3. Buy, as you suggest, a printer that is capable of networking on its own (i.e. one that has an ethernet port).
note with a linksys print server or a spearate pc my hp multifunction printer/scanner does not scan remotely, only prints; so be careful to read your manual if you want to scan remotely.
