Hi runchey10,

There can be various reasons causing this issue, including the router settings as well. Dell Inspiron 14R 5420 comes with the following wireless card configuration:

  • 1703 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0 Half Mini Card
  • 1704 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0 Half Mini Card
  • WLAN 1901 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0 Half Mini Card
  • Intel 2230 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0 Half Mini Card

Please share the screenshot of the Device Manager with Network Adapters expanded for me to identify which wireless card came installed with the system. Here are the steps to access Device Manager:

  • Press the key combination Windows Logo key + R key to open Run dialog box.
  • Type in devmgmt.msc and click OK.
  • The Device Manager windows will appear.
  • Click on the sign next to Network Adapters and expand it.

Will take it further from there.

Hi runchey10,

Thank you for sharing the information.

It is very strange that the laptop is not able to identify one single network, whereas you have no difficulty to detect other neighboring wireless connections. Please share the exact model of the Digicom wireless router that you are using. Also, to isolate the issue further try creating the wireless profile manually and check if that works. Here are the steps:

Steps for Windows 7:

  • Click on Start -> Control Panel.

  • Click on Network and Internet -> View network status and tasks or Network and Sharing Center.

  • In Network and Sharing Center, Click on Manage wireless networks in the left side menu.

  • Click on Add, then another window will pop out.

  • Click on Manually create a network profile.

  • Put in the Network name and Security Key and choose the correct Security type and Encryption type according to the actual wireless settings on your wireless router/AP. Here we take WPA2-Personal/AES as an example. Press Next button after putting in all the information.

  • At last, a profile will be shown in Networks you can view modify and reorder.

Steps for Windows 8:

  • Press the key combination of Windows Logo key + C key to get the Charms Bar.
  • Then, navigate to Settings -> Control Panel.
  • From the Control Panel, click on Network and Internet.
  • From here the steps are same as mentioned for Windows 7.

Hope this helps. Please reply with the results.

i did it. but it again disconnects after restarting.

wifi network is shown exactly after restarting the laptop but it does not connects. it says "can't connect to the network"

and it is again lost after some time.

my laptop can connect to other wifi but not only my home wifi.

Hi runchey10,

Thank you for sharing the results. Please make the following changes to wireless card properties and check if it makes any difference:

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand Network Adapters, right click the wireless card and choose Properties
  • Make the following changes:

    • Change 802.11h+d to Strict 11h
    • Change Afterburner to Enabled
    • Change Antenna Diversity to Main
    • Change AP Compatibility Mode to Broader Compatibility
    • Change BSS Mode to 802.11g Mode
    • Change BT-AMP to Enabled
    • Change Fragmentation Threshold to 2300
    • Change Locally Administered MAC Address to 1234567890AB (This step is important)
    • Change Minimum Power Consumption to Disabled
    • Change PLCP Header to Long
    • Change Roam Tendency to Aggressive
    • Change Roaming Decision to Optimize Distance
    • Change RTS Threshold to 2300

  • Click the Power Management tab

    • Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power

  • Open Power Options

    • Click Change plan settings for the selected power profile
    • Click Change advanced power settings
    • Under Wireless Adapter Settings, click Power Saving Mode and change the settings to Maximum Performance

Also, please share the exact model of the Digicom wireless router. Please reply with the findings.

Hi runchey10,

Thank you for sharing the information.

As your router is working fine with all other devices except this laptop and vice versa, it seems to be compatibility issues between your router and wireless card. You may want to change the router settings like disabling and re-enabling SSID broadcast and changing the mode (b,g,n). Check if this makes a difference.

Note: You might have to reconfigure the wireless connectivity with other devices working on home wireless network, if router settings are changed.

Please reply if you have any questions.

runchey10,

Please continue with DELL-Saharsh K

While connected wireless on your laptop, run Network Interface and post the results back here.

Also provide the virus program and firewall you're using

runchey10,

While you're connected using your wireles adapter, can be this system or another system, I want you to run Network Interface and this will tell me about the settings in your wireless router. I can then tell you what to try.

runchey10,

Did you recently install/reinstall the operating system? How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Did you setup your wireless router? Make and model of your wireless router is helpful.  How to login to your wireless router and use these Recommended Wireless Router Settings I use channel 11. I would suggest making a new SSID to make connecting easier. Here is setup with pictures. Setting up/Troubleshooting a Wireless Network

Your adapter is the Dell Wireless 1704 802.11b/g/n (2.4GHz). This adapter work ONLY on 2.4GHz

Try...

Go to start > device manager > advanced > bandwidth capability > change to 20/40mhz
