First of all, where is Italy are you getting a 4 meg service from Telecom Italia?  They keep promising it here in Vicneza but no luck yet.

Are you giving both PC's static addresses?  If so, set them for DHCP instead of static and let the router issue the addressing.  Also, are you using a router with Ethernet ports and if so, which model?

The two versions do not matter.  First, power down everything and wait a few minutes.  Reconnect and power up all the deives in this order, modem, router, and wait a couple between these two.  now power up the pC's and checl the device manager to make sure you have no conflcis as would be evident by a yellow exclamation mark.

From each machines see if you can ping the router  by going to a command prompt and type;

ping 192.168.0.1 and post back

By the way, you can have internal static addresses since you are behind a router.

NO, you are giving the PC's static addresses, do not do that.  The router address will be 192.168.0.1 and the PC's will automatically get addresses from the router so to configure TCP/IP you mark the setting to "Receive An Address Automatically".  There should be no numeric values on that page whatsoever.

If you go to a command command prompt and type "ipconfig" with the quotes you should see an address of something like:

IP Address:   192.168.0.100

Subnet:        255.255.255.0

default Gateway:  192.168.0.1
