Problem- wireless notebook adapter not recognized by network -Linksys

Question

I'm having trouble getting my Linksys Wireless G Notebook adapter to recognize my Linksys Broadband Router. The adapter supposedly will work with B & G 802.11.   PC is  a Dimension 4600 running XP home w/SP2  Laptop is a Inspiron 5000, XP Pro w/sp2.     Also on the network is an Inspirion 6000 w/ xp home w/SP2, which works fine.   My Router is a Linksys Wireless B  BEFW11S4, the Notebook card is a WPC54GS which says that it is compatible with G&B 802.11b or g. I've loaded the software then inserted the wireless card as instructed, but the card will not be recognized by the network.  Originally the laptop had a Xircom CardBus Ethernet II card,  wired connection and still works fine.   Linksys Support is horrible!  I don't have a clue how to resolve this problem, step by step instruction would be helpful and greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

Does the Linksys card show up in Device Manager when you expand the listing for Network Adapters?  Does it show up in Network Connections? Steve

Hi Steve,   No , the linksys card is not showing up on the Device Mgr. Just the old one.   Under Network Adapters: ! (Yellow) Accton EN1208 PCI Ethernet Adapter   In Network Connections: Nothing   Thanks! Bonnie

If you reboot the computer with the Linksys card inserted in the slot, does the 'New Hardware Wizard come up at all? Steve

Hi Steve!   Right under other devices in the device Manager there is a llisting for PCMCIA adapters, That's where I am inserting the wireless adapter, it's a double slot  and can accept 2 cards. There are two listings listed under it:   Texas Instruments PCI-1225 CardBus Controller  Texas Instruments PCI-1225 CardBus Controller   I inserted the wireless adapter into the bottom slot and the ' New Hardware Wizard' pops up! Inserted the CD for auto install,  looks for the 'ethernet controller', not the wireless adapter, and wants to connect to the internet to search for software, geesh!.   Do you still think the card is bad?

Steve, one more question: Do you think I should exchange the card for the same one or get another brand, type ect ?   If another brand or type any suggestions? Thanks so much for your help!  Bonnie

I would first try to exchange for the same card. I don't have a preference, as I have never used PC Card neworking cards, only internal cards. I have used many different Linksys products and have always been pleased with them.
