Problem with Intel(R) 537EP V9x DF PCI Modem
My modem, for whatever reason god has cursed me for, will lag out in instances of 30 seconds up to 3 minutes. If it is any longer than 2.5 minutes, it will completely kick me off of the internet. Now I've tried configurations to no end, using an initialization command, switching ISPs, etc. and it will still occur. I've also tried to use a friend's computer with the same modem, and my old computer with a Lucent modem. Both of the others have the "problem", but they do not lag for the extensive periods which my own modem does. If anyone can even offer me something I have not tried, I would be grateful.

Master Shake,
If you add the following command to the "extra commands" or "extra initialization" area of your modem properties, it may help with disconnects:
AT+MS=V34
That string will slow the modem down to a max speed of 33.6kbps. The connecton should be more reliable and should reduce the lagging that you experience. It wil change the way that the modem uses the phone line as compared to how the modem treis to use the phone line to get a 56kbps connection.
If this does not help your problem, then you should consider purchasing a higher quality modem - specifically a "hardware" or "controller based" modem. You will be much more pleased with the performance that you will receive from a better grade modem.
