problem with ipx/spx protocal

 I read that ipx is not available on windows XP 64 bit edition.  How do i know if this is the windows xp i have, and if it is, is there a way to make the network work on ipx/spx?

i cant change the network number without taking it off auto detect. i looked at some patches for the game and they only seem to fix bugs for online play, these are on secondary sites, the company's site doesnt have patches for this game on it.
