problems with Inspiron 2200 connecting wireless

I haven't been able to get a wireless connection.  When I go to network connections, there's no wireless tab. I have an internal card and my router  seems to be working.
What am I overlooking.
Thanks, granz

What about the USB connection?  Do you still have a computer plugged in to the USB connection on the modem when you are trying to connect through a router?

Let me make this clear.  In order for your wireless network to work, you must have the modem connected to the router by an ethernet connection and you must now have the USB connection from the router connected to anything.  I realize that in order to connect to the internet to post on this forum you may have to go back and plug the USB connection in from the modem to the computer.  But, when you are troubleshooting the wireless connection the USB connection to the modem must not be present.   Furthermore, everytime you change the connection, you need to restart everything, just to make sure that the modem is not remembering it's previous connection.

Steve,

I don't have the ethernet connected to my computer from the router when I turn on the computer.  I do, however, have a connection to the DSL modem or I can't get online.

Steve,

One thing that's new today.  When I open the properties  tin internet connections,  It shows a wireless connection tab which it never did before.  It wasn't showing that  yesterday.

Steve,

Yes, I just tried to see if it would kick in again, but it didn't.   I unplugged the DSL, waited 10 mins., unplugged the router, waited,  then turned off my computer.   I waited about 15 mins., then plugged in the DSL, waited, plugged in the router and then turned on my computer.  Left everything unplugged from my computer to see if it would work.  Still couldn't get on the internet  without being connected to the DSL modem.

PS Should I try WZC?  If not, shouldn't it be disabled?

Have you ever been able to connect through the router (with the USB cable unplugged) either by ethernet or by wireless?  I ask, because the router has to be initially set up to make the PPPoE connection through the dsl modem.  To do this you would have to connect to the router through an ethernet connection.  If you have never done this (as per the instructions that came with the router), then you would never be able to connect to the internet through the router.

If you have configured the router, then do the following.  With the USB cable not connected to the router and with an ethernet cable connecting the router to the modem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.
