problems with wirless router
I originally got the dell wireless broadband router and installed it with no problems. Now I am at a different location and I am having problems reconnecting it. I am trying to install it on another computer in my apartment but it doesn't install properly. I went and downloaded all the drivers that I thought I would need but still it doesn't work. I am running windows 2000 on the desktop that I have. What could be the problem?

The router requires no drivers and no drivers need be installed on a computer to use a router. Exactly what are you tryinng to do,or think you need to do to use this router? All router configuration can be done from the web based configuration utility.

so I am not sure what this does exactly but I tried using a static ip address and I no longer have the little or no connectivity message. Problem is that Web pages can't be found. What steps should I take to troubleshoot this.

Go into your router's configuration and try disabling encryption. If you can then get it to work, go back in and enable encryption and make sure that the wirless network card is configured the same way.

Which model router do you have? If Windows is telling you that it is a security enabled connection, then you have to either disable the encryption on the router or enter the hex key or pass phrase in the configuration of the wireless connection on the computer that is consistent with that on the router. What type of encryption is the router using (WEP or WPA). Note that to use WPA, all versions of Windows must have WPA compatilbe drivers for the wireless network adapters.

The documentation for the 2350 is not yet on Dell's web site. I imagine it works just like the older model, the 2300, in which case you need to go into the web based configuration utility from a computer that is connected by ethernet on the router. You then need to find the wireless security settings and disable them. It sounds like you already know how to get into the web based configuration utility as it does ask for a password. Leaving the router unplugged for an extended period of time could have returned settings to their default values, but I doubt that enabling encryption is one of the default settings. But then again, the Dell TrueMobile line of routers has always done strange things that most of us don't understand (that's why we use Linksys, Netgear, D-link and Belkin routers).
