Question on Range extending my wireless.

Question

I have a wireless router that gives great signel strength through out my home, except the basement.  I want to buy a access point to extend my range.  I am capable of hooking the AP up to the the wireless router with a ethernet cable.  My question is this, I don't want differant signels coming from the router and AP, so I assume this means repeater mode.  I just want a strong signel throughout the house.  Can I hookup the repeater with a cable so I am sure the AP is communicating with the router 100%?  As you can tell, I'm a newbie to this access point thing.  Also, if this is possible, do I hook up the AP into the LAN ports or the WAN port?  I think WAN is out of the question though because I have my DSL in the WAN port.    Joe-Joe

I would use a range extender device (linksys, dlink, etc) preferably made my the same company that manufactured the access point/router.   The other option would be a wireless bridge

Rather than a range extender that attaches directly to the WAP you could also use a WLAN repeater. If you look around you can find one relatively cheap and it'll do exactly what you are looking to do.
