Reappearing Error Message: Dell Wireless WLAN Card Wireless Network Controller stopped working and was closed.
In 2008 I had trouble with this Dell Inspiron 1420, under warranty I called and downloaded two drivers, one for my wireless card and another for my Audio. Less than a month later I had trouble with the wireless card & called Dell Again but seeing as my warranty expired they refused to help despite this probably being a continuation of the same problem. I found some drivers on their site & things seemed to be working alright until my computer got infected with Security Tools Malware. After starting the clean up & being able to use the computer I occassionally get the following error message:
Dell Wireless WLAN Card Wireless Network Controller stopped working and was closed
A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available.
I try to follow the instructions---swear I'm not a total idiot but the Windows notification only tells me to go to the card's site to download new drivers. For the life of me I keep findinig different names for this card all over can someone tell me where to DEFINATIVELY locate the actual card &/or network controller that I need to download an appropriate driver?
I have tried finding some drivers and they all appear to already be on my computer. I re-install them and the problem seems to persist.
I rarely use my wireless card as I have a wired network at home and the error message pops up VERY SPORADICALLY so I'm never sure if I've fixed it or how to check if I've fixed it. There is a WiFi spot by my house & I never seem to have trouble accessing it but unsure if this problem is stable or if it just appears & freaks out some time.
If anyone can help out on this I would be greatful--I just have this stinking feeling that when I REALLY need the wireless thing that will be the day it actually stops working--Murphy's Law.
Thanks!

uljanap,
Make and model of your computer and operating system helpful. If you know the wire adapter, it can also be helpful.
If you have a wireless adapter, that will be helpful.
Wireless router, make and model also helpful with they type of security and channel you're using.

HI RIck!
It's a Dell Inspiron 1420 running Vista Home Premium.
in the Dell Wireless Utilitiy I am told I have:
Wireless Adapter: Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN Mini Card
I have run this patch: R172217 that I found on the Dell Website
I don't even know what a wire adapter is so help me get you the information if you could
I don't have a wireless router as I have wired internet at home, I use the wireless function when I'm out & about. They are usually pulic free wifi spots so unsure where to find security & channel....?
Thanks for your help!

uljanap,
Try running Finding System Information
At the bottom, it will tell you your network adapters.
Is the network adapter enabled in the bios(press F2 at startup)?
