Reinstalled windows and now cant connect to interned

Question

Hi

Recently had to reinstall windows vista on my inspiron 1501. All is okay now except I cannot connect to the internet. Technically I am connected to the wireless network but I cant get on the web. Im going around in circles following error msgs but they all seem to point to an issue with DNS. Im really clueless when it comes to computers so I dont understand any of the answers that I have googled.

Can anyone help pls? Ive run cmd to save time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as im at the end of my tether :)

Since the operating system was re-installed did you remember to go to drivers and downloads, enter your service tag(DO NOT POST SERVICE TAG here or your post will get deleted, since it contains your personal information), and install these drivers in this order.

Desktop System Software or Notebook System Software
Chipset or SMBus driver
Processor Driver (if applicable)
Video
Audio (sound)
Input Drivers (keyboard/mouse)
Modem
Network Card

Thanks so much for your reply pudgyone. Okay stupid question but, if I cant get onto the internet from my laptop (im on a friends laptop now) how can I download the drivers from the site? Is it possible to download them onto this laptop and transfer them via external hard drive??

Ive got a drivers and utilities cd that came with the laptop, will this suffice?

mrsberries,   Yes, use the Drivers and Utilities disk and install the drivers. You can access the internet using a wired connection, this usually works.   Rick

What happens if I can't find the disk for Drivers and Utilities?  How can I download this to a computer that does not have internet. Thanks Traci

Try running Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and post the rest of the information back here. You can save the document to a flash drive and the post it from the computer you're using now.

Then read...

How to by-pass the Dell Download Manager then use Internet Explorer to download the drivers , in your browser. Save them and give them a name, put them on a flash drive, and take them to the other computer.

The Desktop/Notebook Utility needs to be installed first(if applicable), then the chipset drivers. If they are NOT installed first, then the rest of the drivers will fail to install.

How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Since the operating system was re-installed did you remember to go to drivers and downloads, enter your service tag(DO NOT POST SERVICE TAG here or your post will get deleted, since it contains your personal information), and install these drivers in this order.

Hint When downloading the drivers, make a folder for each drivers and name it with the device it belongs with to make it easier to install them in the proper order.
