I am running windows XP Professional service pack 1. Both times i was on the Internet. The first time i was on Yahoo playing pinochle and the second time i was going on the weather channel to check the radar screen. Both times Msn messenger was open and norton antivirus active. MSN Explorer was also running. The message said that the system will be shutting down with a clock next to it which counted backwards from 60 seconds. It said the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) had terminated unexpectly. It said to save everything or it would be lost. At the bottom it said being done by NT Authority\System. I have a dimension 2300 with a pentium 4 processor.
that is very interesting that you also got it for the first time today. Could this be a possible virus that got partially aborted by the Norton antivirus software? I ran my full system scan after I got the first error message because it was so weird and I had never gotten it before. Everything came back OK after the scan. No viruses detected.
See if the following threads, found searching google.com, help to solve the problem. Note you should read all of the posts in each thread. Near the bottom of the first set of messages, it is suggested that the problem is caused by a trojan and the lack of applying a Windows Critical Update. The second thread has suggestions on what to do to fix the problem. See if these suggestions help.
hi again, my hubby is experiencing the exact same thing....i tried to follow the links, but the "webdav.exe" file does not show up in my computer. Did you find out what it is yet?
I tried to goto the website you gave..But neither of the Windows xp files work..I am running windows xp home edition.. Pentium 4 dimension 8300.. One of the files doesent work and the other one downloads and then cancels out while im installing it, and it doesent tell me why.. Just does it
Hi there
yeah i just posted the same question i get disconnected only after a few minutes being online i've tried to access the links but it never stays on line for long enough
I have a pentium 4 processor 2.66ghz plus have xp but still nothing works its getting annoying now
Physically, disconnect the computer from the internet so that there is no way it can go online. Then enable the Windows XP firewall on your internet connection. Shut down the computer, reconnect the network connection, go and then immediately go to Windows update and download and install all critical updates. Then update your virus definitions and run a full system scan for viruses.
