Router/modem for dialup wireless

I'm going to try to hookup a wireless network between my husband's self-built PC running WinMe and my new Inspiron 8600 with XP that has a TrueMobile 1300 WLAN card. We live out in the country and are stuck with dialup for now. One of the forum threads suggested using a router/modem for this configuration to avoid having to setup ICS and to get better performance. Can anyone recommend a specific brand of router/modem?

Also, do you recommend we keep our current wired network configuration, or install a wireless PCI NIC in my husband's PC?

Thanks for your help !

I did locate the Apple AirPort Extreme, but I believe it only runs under a MAC OS.

The original apple airports had modems in them, and work fine with PC's. Also, the SMC 7004AWBR (may have to look on ebay) also would work with an external modem.

Thanks for the info.  The SMC 7004AWBR looks real good - there's one for sale on eBay right now. We have a parallel printer and it has a DB-25, so that will work for us.

One more question - about the OS. Is there any advantage to using XP (either Home or Professional) over WinMe with regard to this wireless network I'm trying to set up? Didn't want to bother with the expense or the install (I hear finding drivers can be a problem) if WinMe will do the trick. It's been a very stable OS for us.

Boy, this forum is SO much more effective than Dell Support!  :-)

This is the dual PC modem that was recommended on this forum earlier, by Actiontec.

It words great for me, you can connect it to a wired hub or a wireless access point.
I use it with a wireless router; so I can hard wire my desktop and use wireless on my laptop.

Also the D-Link 713p works the same way as the SMC7004(or 8)AWBR - it must be the AWBR.  I have the SMC but have not used it with a modem.  You will need a hardware modem (not WinModem) with these two routers.  Either router will dial the modem for you, unless you have AOL and then you will probably have no luck as others report.
