Says Wireless Connection is Excellent but Internet Still Doesn't Work. Help!

Question

Hi,   I have an Inspiron laptop and I recently set up a Home wireless connection. There are two other computers in the house and their internet is working but mine somehow isn't. THe Intel Wireless Connections says that it has an 'Excellent' connection yet when I try to open up webpages I just get a screen that says 'Page cannot be Displayed'. Help?! Suggestions?! Thanks

To help troubleshoot this problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.   Steve

Hi, I have an Inspiron E1505 and from the postings it seems this is one common problem with the model.I am not able to get online although my wireless signal's strength shows excellent from the wireless connectivity status. Re-installation of the drver for Dell 1390 Mini card and power cycling the router and modem haven't solved the problem. The router is working as my desktop which uses a wired connection through the same router opens web pages properly. The LAN and WAN IPs are not same either. My ipconfig/all output is at the bottom of my post. I am not able to log into my routers configuration page through the notebook or any website for that matter. I see someone suggested the winsock fix but since it is not from an authentic party is it ok to install it? Before that though it has to be figured out what is wrong with my notebook. victorial88,   Your probablem is that you have your TCP/IP properties set to a static IP address which is probably not in the range of  your router.  You need to set it to obtain an IP address automatically.  Open Network Connections, right click your wireless connection and select Properties.  Find the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), select it, then click on the properties button.  Put a check mark next to 'Obtain an IP address automatically', and, if necessary, put a check mark next to 'Obtain DNS server address automatically'.   Steve
