Strange Connectivity Problem

New Inspirion 6000 connecting to a domain.  Hard drive image was replaced with our own image.  All is fine except for the connection to the internet. If I give the machine DHCP it goes no where, however, a static IP address connects wtih no problem.  Results of an "ipconfig /all" while under DHCP results in a valid IP Address on our network segment with the correct DNS and WINS servers correctly listed.

The DHCP service is running so I am at a loss.  Any thoughts?

Sounds like either subnet mask or (more likely) Default Gateway isn't right under DHCP scope.

Want to check this out and/or post both IPConfigs/ALL (the static and dynamic results) on the off-chance I'm wrong?

Then we need to look elsewhere (I would feel better if you would Hardcode the DHCP address and give it a try..just on the oft chance someone is filtering your ipaddress )  Also, when configured for the .254 address...can you ping the DHCP assigned address (you shouldn't be but perhaps someone hardcoded the 199 address and didn't remove it from the scope.. However...

On your browser...Tools, Internet OPtions, Connections, Lan Settings..When getting a DHCP address do you see the Proxy Address or server address being assigned?

Also, if you could compare a "route print" from both a DHCP and a Manually assigned address..do you notice any diffences?

Everything was perfect

Address was:

136.209.89.199  Subnet:  255.255.255.0  G/W  139.209.89.1  DNS 136.209.11.9 & 11.10  WINS  (SAME)

I give it the address of 136.209.89.254 and it will connect.

I can ping the switch and any machine on the subnet (by address and/or by NetBIOS) so this thing has me totally stumped.

Everything is clear in Internet Options because we have a set image we load from.  This is the second of six machines that would not connect.

Have you checked advanced settings and made sure DHCP is enabled? Also have you tried reserving the MAC in DHCP for a specific ip address mainly the .254 that worked when set statically.

I'm sorry, did you mean that you can ping the .189 when you are configured for the .254 address (or did I misunderstand?) (Looking to see if the Server is giving you a duplicate address.)

That it occurs with clones is kind of a tip-off.  What are you using for access-control to the internet (network authentication, IP addresses, none?)

It is possible to manually assign MAC addresses, so I was curious if the "master clone" might have had that set (back to the ping test!)
