Studio 1440 Bluetooth problem
I have a Studio 1440 64-bit system that came with Vista installed. I upgraded to Windows 7 soon after. With both these versions the bluetooth was
working fine. My computer got a virus and I had to re-install everything. Now my bluetooth is unable to detect any bluetooth devices. I have the latest driver for the Dell Wireless Bluetoothe 365 module. When installing it says that it is looking for bluetooth devices but none are discoverable even though I have a Microsoft Bluetooth notebook 5000 mouse and a smartphone with bluetooth that are in discovery mode.
I know the devices are discoverable because they are discovered on my wife's computer which is also a studio 1440. Any suggestions?

MarinerDaddy,
When you installed Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit) did you install the desktop/notebook utility and the chipset drivers first? If not the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order If you cannot find Windows 7 drivers, then try using the Vista (or XP) 32-bit drivers, for Windows 7 32-bit of the Vista (or XP) 64-bit drivers for Windows 7 64-bit and install the drivers in the Compatibility mode.

Can I go back and re-install the drivers in the order you suggest? Do I have to un-install everything or can I re-install everything in that order?

MarinerDaddy,
Just install the drivers in the correct order. You can start with the desktop/notebook system utility and the chipset drivers and follow the list.

I installed the drivers in the order you suggested and it still doesn't work. I did have a couple of problems during the installs.
#3. PCMCIA/Smartcard controller-- There was no security category.
#4. Intel Storage-- Said not compatible with 64-bit system.
#7. Network Interface Card-- Unzip error code 40. Tried 3 times but still had error.
Continued with the rest and didn't work when tried to connect Bluetooth device. I uninstalled the Bluetooth 365 module, restarted the computer and it re-installed the module but gave the following error:
Device driver software was not successfully installed
Please consult with your device manufacture for assistance getting this device installed.
Dell Wireless 365 Bluetooth Modue (check) Ready to use
Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI) #7 X Failed
Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator (check) Ready to use
Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network)#7 X Failed
Bluetooth Hands-free Audio (check) Ready to use
Bluetooth L2CAP Interface (check) Ready to use
Bluetooth Remote Control (check) Ready to use
Any other suggestions?
Thanks

Tried compatability mode on the first item
Notebook System Utility but said:
This Microsoft Windows operating system service pack in not supported.
Please update to the latest Microsoft Windows service pack.
I tried Windows 7, Vista(sp2), Vista(sp1), and Vista and got the message every time.

MarinerDaddy,
Did you install the following in the Vista Compatibility mode ?
Notebook System Utility
nVidia MCP79 Chipset
nVidia nForce AHCI Controller
Then install...
Realtek RTL8111DL Ethernet Controller
Dell Wireless 1515 (11agn) WLAN half mini-Card (Atheros)
or
BROADCOM CORPORATION;FOXCONN; Wireless WLAN 1397 Half MiniCard (4312bg)
Dell ASSY,CRD,NTWK,BLTH,365,DT,2
This should get you online so that you can install the other drivers.

I installed everything in the order stated and in compatibility mode and bluetooth still can't detect a bluetooth device.
It wouldn't let me install the bios even though I am set up as the administrator.
I guess I'm gonna have to live without bluetooth even though it appears the drivers are installed.
Thanks for you help.

MarinerDaddy,
Hit the Windows Key and the R keys at the same time. Type
systeminfo.txt
REMOVE THE PRODUCT ID and post the rest of the information back here. (Preferred)
or an ipconfig /all log and maybe it will reveal something.

MarinerDaddy,
The bluetooth adapter is showing in the ipconfig /all log.
Try looking in these places to see if the bluetooth Connection is enabled
Make sure to read the Dell WWAN Wireless not detected There is a box there for the bluetooth adapter, too.
You can also try...
Start, in search, type...
bttray
click on it. This will put the bluetooth icon in the system tray, near the clock. You can enable/disable the bluetooth there.

There is no bluetooth icon in Customized By Dell area of Windows Mobility Center but the wireless network is on on the top section.
The internal bluetooth is enabled in the bios.
I'll check the other info you gave me.

I noticed there is no Bluetooth box (or option) under radio control options in the Windows Mobility Center. Why? I'm sorry about these questions but this is deeper than my knowledge but I'm learning more as I keep digging with your help.

Bluetooth not listed under network connections.
