Studio 1537 - internet not working on either ethernet or on wireless
Studio 1537 - internet not working on either ethernet or on wireless
I just got this machine 3 days ago and I haven't been able to get on the internet. I loaded all the lastest broadcomm drivers and intel wireless drivers. In the device manager there are no ! next to anything.
I did a fresh install of Vista then loaded all the drivers again. Still no internet. The machine can't find find the lan at all. It can find the wireless router and it can even connect to it. However still I can use the internet. There are no packets being sent back and only a few received.
I read in a few places from people having similar issues with this but I don't see any results. I disabled flow control on the network driver. I disabled ipv6. The machine came with firmware version A07. I couldn't find it on the site so as a last resort I downgraded to A05. Still same issue.
This is pretty frustrating. I have had and setup about 30 machines in my life and this is my first vista machine (and dell). And all I have are these issues. I just don't get how if all hardware seems to be showing working properly why is there no network action on either the nic or on the wireless?????
any help would be great.

I too just got a 1537. These are some of issues that need to be addressed. For starters ijay,
- what firewall are you using? Windows, Trend micro (mine had a 30-day trend micro trial)? I've used pc-cillin for a number of years, and can help.
-are you using a new Router? Is it connected to a cable modem? Do you have other computers connected to router, or prior ones used with the same router?
-did you secure your wireless internet connection on your router?
-did you try connecting directly to the modem?
-is your connection set for public or private?
-did you go into Event Viewer and looked at errors?
Not knowing details of your system and knowledgeThese are for starters.
As with any machine of any type, sometimes it takes some time to iron out all the kinks. Be patient!
