T3400 is periodically loosing connectivity
Hi,
I recently bought a Precision T3400 for my workplace running Vista. After installing all of my development tools (Im a webdeveloper), I experince the machine will loose connectivity after anything ranging from 5 minutes to 4 hours. I am not able to pinpoint any indicator - suddenly the connection just dies. I am on cabled LAN on a Domain Controller, also running DHCP. Event log writes nothing. I have reinstalled Vista once, using the supplied Vista DVD and the Dell drivers.
My colleague bought the exact same machine and has not experinced these problems.
Funny thing is that there's not a problem when I use Remote Desktop to access the T3400. As soon as I plug my keyboard, mouse and monitor directly to it, the problem emerges.

Dennis,
I can't guarentee this will solve the problem but try these tweaks and see if this helps. I did these tweaks for the USB Ports, wireless adapter and the ethernet adapter.
Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)
Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.
Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
Restart your computer.

Hi Rick,
Thank you for taking your time to help. Unfortunately the tweaks did not help. USB powersaving was already disabled. I disabled power saving for the Ethernet adapter (I do not run wireless), and after 45 mins, I lost all network connections (even my debugging on IIS 7 froze).
I give up - I've tried almost every thing I could think of, this is just a waste of time now. I will install Windows XP when I get a chance. Thanks again Rick.
