TCP/IP not enabled error

I could connect to the internet via my cable connection up until last week.  Now it will not connect.  When I try to do a repain on the internet connection, it gives me an error that says "TCP/IP is not enabled for this connection. Cannot proceed"  I called support and they had me  go to c:\windows\inf and install the nettcpip. This did not work either  As far as I can tell, the network card and connection are fine.  What can I do?

Control Panel - Network and Dialup Connections - your network connection name - click on it to open it, then Properties.  Is Internet protocol - TCP/IP listed?  If no, Add the protocol.  If it is, delete it, reboot, then go back and add it back in and see if that helps.
