Trouble connecting to my wireless network

The past week I have had trouble connecting to my wireless network.  The laptop is usually on my desk in the office.  When I take it to another room, the room where the router etc lives it gets disconnected.  I cannot connect until I move back into the office.  Any ideas?  My husband was wondering if something outside our house was "scrambling"  the signal somehow.  The room I cannot seem to connect in is to the front, where the street is.  My husband's laptop seems to connect just fine in that room.  So the problem is with my computer?

Do you have any 2.4 Ghz cordless phones nearby?  If so, try setting the channel on your router to one of the extreme channels (1 or 11) to minimize the interference from cordless phones.

If yours is "g" and your husband's is "g" then I would set the access point to operate only "g" and not dual mode to see if that has an effect. Conversely, if one of the systems is "b" then I would operate the access point and both units as "b" rather than dual-mode (as troubleshooting). Of course the previous suggestion takes precedence (about walk-around phone interference).

Thanks to all who replied.  Dell Tech support helped us noodle it out.  Changed router channel from 11 to 9 to 1.  1 was a winner.
