trouble getting online with some websites

I can received my emails (Outlook Express) and get on to my Internet Explorer (6.0), bringing up most sites, but lately it restricts some of the websites I want and I also can't get Windows Messenger anymore.  The error message says, "We were unable to sign you in to .NET Messenger Service, possibly because of a problem with the service or with your Internet connection.  Please make sure that you are connected to the Internet."  There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the site, because when I click on "help", the message comes up, "All systems are stable and running".   Needless to say, I am on the internet.   Any suggestions?

Can't help you with Messenger, but it sounds like you've got restrictions set up on your browser. In IE, go to "Tools," "Internet Options," Content," and look on the top. If the button on the left is "Disable," it means that restrictions are currently enabled. You want to disable those settings.

Also, hit the "Settings" to see what the restrictions actually are.

Did you check into your internet options? Check Security, Privacy, and Advanced tabs and make sure all of them are set to default.

Do you happen to run personal firewall software such as
Zone Alarm Pro or Norton Personal Firewall?
If you do, there are some restrictions on those.

Tony....you have just become my "best friend".  I thought I had tried everything, but yes, I did have Zone AP on my computer.  After reading your comment, I deleted it and am now back on windows messenger.  I still can't access certain websites,.  I can get www.msn.com, but once on the site, I can not go to other sites within msn system.  Any suggestions?  Thanks again for your comment.
