True mobile 1300 unable to connect

Question

Hello,

I've a brand new D600 with True Mobile 1300 wireless.
(Nice machine... :D)

I'm not able to connect (in enqrypted mode) to my Netgear WGR614v3 wireless router, although I tried several options...

With my older lappy, (toshiba with Sweex wireless) setup was easy.

I have following choises in my Netgear:
- Security Encryption (WEP)
- Security Encryption (WPA-PSK)

FYI the signal is excelent, without any security it works ok.
I had all working without trouble in WPA-PSK.
The "balloon" doesn't show now.

Now my settings are:
(Wireless Network Props)
* Data Encrytion (WEP enabled) => yes
* Network Aut. (Shared moded) => yes
* Networkkey => filled in 13 caracters
---2 keyfields are set up auto now
* Key index => 1
* the keys is provided auto => NO

The Tabfield LEAP (What is that??) Enabled => NO
The Tabfield Links status shows no networks available
The Tabfield Info shows Version 3.20.23.0, Date Jun 13 (aargggg!!!) 2003

Can some one "show me the way" to do it??

Enter those settings / save and close out and reboot.  Sometimes that does work.  If not, use the XP Configuration utility instead of the Dell utility.

Thx for your advice m8...

I forgot to say I use W2K.

With help from another board I have a connection in WEP, but I still on can't get all going in
WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)

According to the Dell manual, it is more secure to use the WPA-PSK Key, so if you can point me out how to get that option going, I would be greatfull.

I can't understand the LEAP modus, where should that be used for??

For those who had the same problem as me, here's what I did (wrong)
- Note that in your router the option "Turn access control on" must be OFF.
- These options are ON:
*Enable Wireless Router Radio
*Enable SSID Broadcast
- Security Options are set at WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)
- Security Encryption (WEP)is set at Automatic and 128 bit
- Security Encryption (WEP) Key has to be set exactly as long as Dell True Mobile requires (so the Dell decides how long, my former Sweex would eat everything that was set in the router)

If I let it run WPA is doesn't go.... If I set it to WEP it goes, but (of course) in 128 bit secured encryption, with 26 digit key.

same here man, i have a linksys router and a cisco miniPCI card, i am running winxp, and when i encrypt )WEP or WPA)it does not connect OR it does connect but it does not send or recieve packets, so what i did is disable the encryption BUT enable the MAC address filter which means only MAC addresses on my list could access the network which is pretty safe.. but i still cant figure out wats wrong with WPA and WEP

Try using HEX at both the router and wireless card utility to enter the encryption key.  If you were using the passphrase method, manufacturers use different routines to make the key so the actual code generated can and will be different for different manufacturers, and when you try to connect two different brands, the keys are different and won't work.  If you want a 128-bit key, use 26 HEX digits (0-9 and A-F - be random!).

But... I already have it working in 128bit mode :D

I just would like to have the safest option, and I think that is with WPA-PSK key...

As described I have a Netgear WGR614 and according to the Dell support (before I bought the D600 I called them..) it would work fine, as Dell is also official Netgear dealer :(

But after sales support is something old fashioned these days :-(

I'm waiting for one of the experts now to help me out.........

Make sure the Netgear has the latest firmware from Netgear, the 1300 is using the latest driver, and you have updated Windows with the WPA update.

I installed the XP Patch, the newest driver for TM 1300 (fromm 13-06-2003, very new, btw) and have the newest firmware on my router.
The WLAN is working correctly, no doubt about this, when I use another (i.e. Netgear 511) WLAN card via PCMCIA on my Dell D600 it works absolute correctly!!!!

Only this True Mobile 1300 tells me, that no network is available.

Any other suggestions beside installing new drivers???
