TrueMobile 1400 will not work with 802.11a
I have an Insprion 8600 with a Dell TrueMobile 1400. My notebook works great on my Linksys b/g cable modem / wireless router. However, the reason that I added the 1400 card is so that I can connect to my Proxim Orinoco AP-600a access point. This is an 802.11a only access point. I have been unable to connect to the access point. I can not even see the SSID.
We have successfully connected 5 other units to the AP.
I called Dell Technical Support and spent a couple of hours on the phone configuring every possible item. They decided that the "a" channel was not working. I put in the new (refurbished, which did not make me happy) card. Again, I still can not see the AP.
The one thing that I noticed is that the card has two MAC addresses listed. I have not been able to find that the computer can see the second MAC address. I do not know if this is important or not.
During my third phone call to Dell Technical Support I asked them if they had an 802.11a network that they could even try one of these cards on. They said that they do not!
I am going to try an external card to prove to the people at Dell that I actually have a functioning AP.
Has anyone ever successfully used a Dell TrueMobile 1400 to connect to an 802.11a network? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the response. Dell has decided that the problem is with my "motherboard". I am sure what they meant was that there is an antenna problem. They have asked me to send my notebook in and have it serviced. I am still having an issue with the idea. My B/G works fine and even if my notebook is touching the AP it will not see the SSID.
I did put in a PC card and it worked.
Off to Dell it goes...
