Turn off modem sound while connecting?
I have an Inspiron 8500. The modem is "PCTEL 2304WT V.92 MDC Modem". It works fine, but as usual it make that screeching noise whilst connecting. I'd like to turn that off.
Within Control Settings - Phone and Modem Options - Modems tab - Properties - Modem,
there is a "speaker volume" adjustment, with just two settings: Off and On.
It seems to make no difference which of these I select, the noise remains anyway.
Does anybody know how I can fully switch this noise off (apart from hitting the mute button)?
Fergus.

See if entering “M0” (M - zero) in the modem’s “Extra Settings” will help (more info ”here”).
