Unable to acquire network address

Hello again!  Well, I was able to get my wireless network wizard going with everyone's help re: my question about the network key, but now my tray icon says "acquiring network address" and then states "no network address" and "unable to connect to preferred wireless network".  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Do you think I have a problem with my router?

in your first post you never went back to answer the person that was trying to help you. you don't need to start a new post just answer your last one.

Please post the results of an ipcinfig /all

From a command prompt type:

ipconfig /all >> C:\ipconfig.txt

Go to your C drive and copy the results of that file and paste it here.

The wired adapter is just fine but the wireless does not the see router.
It should have an address similar to the wired 192.168.1.1 with the same subnet and DNS server, etc.

I wold unistall the wireless adapter thru the Device manager and then reboot and reinstall.

Looks as though you are running Vista and have the installed the wired adpater a number of times, or at least created the connection.

Thanks for your help.  By "wireless adapter" do you mean the Netgear router?  I will try to do that and let you know.  I appreciate your knowledge!

Wireless Adpater=Wireless Network Card  not the router.

OK, I have the Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card. To uninstall do I go through control panel and network connections to access?  I can follow directions but as I said before I am not too technilogically savvy. And then how do I reinstall?  From a download from Microsoft or should I have a CD that was supplied from Dell?  Sorry for all of the questions, you have been such a great help! By the way I am running Windows XP.

Thanks, ScullyRN

The utility is uninstalled thru the Control Panle while the actual device is removed thru the Device Manager.  Reboot and you will be asked to supply the drivers to install.

Well, I feel like I am getting in over my head. I uninstalled the device, rebooted and when I went to go into the control panel again through network connections to reinstall the device the box opens and says, "Windows cannot configure this wireless connection. If you want windows to configure this wireless connection use the Wireless Zero Configuration Service". Any suggestions? Thanks so much for your follow through, I appreciate it!!!

Click Yes or Okay because the device is looking for something to tell it how to work and it see the WZC as a solution.

Just thought I would follow up with you re: my wireless problem. When the problem originally started my ISP's homepage had "frozen" and had not rotated the news for the past month at the same time I couldn't go wireless. Yesterday my ISP homepage suddenly "refreshed" and I thought I'd try to go wireless one more time before calling someone to come to the house and pay them to fix the problem. Now I can connect.  Why would these 2 problems be connected?  Previously, my wireless icon kept saying "acquiring network address" and when I clicked on it today it said "connected".  I don't understand.  I thought maybe you would have some insight. Thanks for all your help by the way. I appreciate it very much!
