Unable To Connect Router

I just replace my computer with Dell 8400. Network card is Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller. Running Window XP home, SP-2. Use Comcast cable. Had been using a wired router. Never have any problem before I switch to Dell 8400.

Now I have not been able to connect. Went through two Netgear router, and now trying with D-Link Router DI-704P. Am not able to get the router to work.

If I take out the router and connect directly to the computer, I get internet without problem. But once I put in the router, it does not work.

Did you shut down the computer before you installed the router?

Yes, I did. I followed the shut down instructions exactly: shut down computer, shut down router and shut down modem. Then turn on modem, router and finally computer.

Have you tried resetting the router and is the firmware the latest verion?  If so on the laetr, it would not hurt to flash it again.
