unable to connect to internet with ethernet cable

Question

I'm unable to connect to the internet from my cable modem to my computer using ethernet cable but can connect using a usb cable how do i remedy this

If you haven't done so, try power-cycling the modem (unplugging its power cord and then plugging it back in) before switching the connection.    Unplug the USB cord.  Turn off your computer.  Unplug the modem's power supply.  Power up the modem.  Connect it via ethernet to your computer.  Turn on the computer.

Connect the ethernet cable to the modem and ping the modem.  If no repsonse, ping the modem and see what results.  This could be nothign more than a bad cable.
