Unable to Connect to Internet/Home Network
My current network setup is as follows: A router connected to an ADSL line directly with 4 slots (2 Desktops + 2 free slots). End of last year, I was still able to use the internet with my Inspiron 640m (Vista). I went overseas then for about a month and never connected to any network until I came back. Upon connection, I don't get any Internet connection. The other desktops connected to the same router, as do other laptops connected to it are still able to connect to I assume there's not problem with the router. No ipconfig /renew or whatever could work. I've contacted Dell and tried every possible solution they suggested to no avail. They even changed the motherboard and says its not the hardware.
I ran ipconfig and this is what appears:
Windows IP Configuration
Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection:
Media State: Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS Suffix: --
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection -specific DNS Suffix: --
Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address: 169.254.9.201
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway:--
Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 11:
Connection -specific DNS Suffix: --Link-local IPv6 Address: fe80::5efe:169.254.9.10`%19

Connection-specific DNS Suffix:--
Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 9:

Thanks for the help!

It is not clear from your message whether or not you are attempting to connect by wireless or wired ethernet. Please clarify.

I had pretty much similar issue sometime ago.
When I checked my Internet Protoco(TCP/IP) ->properties. The connection was set to "Use the following DNS Server". This I changed to "Obtain DNS automatically". This made it to work. I'm not sure if this helps you, but wanted to share though.

I did check my Internet settings and it has been set to what you mentioned, and didn't manage to fix it.

You said you tried every possible solution that Dell suggested. Specifically what did you try. I don't want to waste our time suggesting stuff, only to have you come back and say - already tried it - didn't work.

Dell asked me the following:
1st Solution
1) Confirm that the Network Card Is Enabled in the BIOS
2) Change the Dell Quickset settings or plug AC power into the computer
The Network Card was already enabled, and there was no menu in Dell Quickset for the Internal Network Card.
2nd Solution
1) Run IPCONFIG and ping the Gateway
There was no Gateway so I couldn't ping anything.
3rd Solution
1) Disable IPv6
Disabled with some changes in the appearance of the IPCONFIG but still no Default Gateway
4th Solution
1) Change the Motherboard (Done by Dell Service Engineer)
That was the last they've suggested and there was still no Internet.

Boot into Safe Mode with Network Support then try to connect. Does it successfully connect in Safe Mode with Network Support?
