unable to connect to the net with wireless

Hi all im new here and looking for some advice!!

I have a dell inspiron 1100 laptop that i have a dell truemobile 1300 802.1.1 b/g PC card in for my wireless connection. My router is Libebox-7bd8 i think

I have tried to connect to the internet as usual but keep getting "page cannot be displayed" but the pc says that i am connected to my live box with excellent connection.

I also have a pc that has a wired connection that works perfect?

I called my net provider one man said that oh no its your wireless card and hung up and another lady actually took my details and told me it was a common fault and it will be fixed withing 3 hours that was a week ago !!

Has anyone else had this trouble ?? Is it the wireless card or the pc or internet provider im soooooooo confused with it all !!

Please help, Thank you in advance love hayley x

Mine was fine until the other day just didnt work i just get everything is connected but when i open a page page cannot be displayed, i am unable to have a ethernet cable as my nephew broke the slot that it goes into so i run totally wireless with the truemobile 1300 pc card ! Its just funny that this comp works fine with its wired connection on the live box but my laptop wont , just annoys me that one min everything is rosey and then it all goes wrong.  So im lucky that everything on mine is compatible as it worked fine for past year which leads me to think i need a new wireless adapter but even then that is showing connected  xx

i too have had this problem. i have a dimension e520 desktop, a netgear router and pci card. although the signal strength showed as excellent, as soon as you unplug the ethernet cable there is no connection. i have spent hours on the phone trying to sort this but to no avail. netgear eventually told me it was an imcompatibility issue as their card only works with memory up to 2mg - but this cant be the case if you are suffering with the same problem on other make wireless set up equipment.

Your wireless adapter is connecting to the router and getting an ip address.  To further troubleshoot,  try the following and let me know the results

Open a command prompt window again, then type the following

ping dell.com then hit the Enter key.  What happens?

Now type the following in the command prompt window

ping 143.166.224.224 then hit the Enter key.  What happens?

You need to do this in a command prompt window so it won't disappear.  To open a command prompt window, go to Start > Run and type cmd then hit the Enter key.  Then enter the ping commands.

Silly me !!

ping dell.com comes back with

ping request could not find host dell.com. please check the name and try again

and

ping 142.166.224.244 comes back with

pinging 143.166.224.224 with 32 bytes of data:

reply from 143.166.224.244: bytes=32 time=131ms TTL=236
reply from 143.166.244.244 bytes = 32time=131ms TTL=236
reply from 143.166.224.224 bytes =32 time=130ms TTL=236
repy from 143.166.224.224 bytes=32 time = 133ms TTL=236

ping statistics for 143.166.244.244:
packets sent = 4, recieved = 4 lost = 0 (0%lost)
approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
minimum = 130ms maximum = 133ms average = 131ms

hayley ,

To help troubleshoot this problem, on the computer with the problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

Interesting.   The fact that you can successful ping Dell's ip address tells us the you are in fact connecting to the internet.  But, since you can't successfully ping dell.com, tells us that there is a problem reaching the dns server which resolves host names into ip addresses.  Let's try one more test to verify this.  On the problem computer, open Internet Explorer and type http://143.166.224.244/ into the address bar.   Does this get to you to the Dell USA homepage?

No!

it has come up with

page below  is the same as what has been occuring

The page cannot be displayed

The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

To attempt fixing network connectivity problems, click Tools, and then click "Diagnose Connection Problems..."

Other options to try:

  • Click the Refresh button, or try again later.
  • If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.
  • To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
  • See if your Internet connection settings are being detected. You can set Microsoft Windows to examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings (if your network administrator has enabled this setting).

1.       Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.

2.       On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.

3.       Select Automatically detect settings, and then click OK.

  • Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
  • If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
  • Click the Back button to try another link.

Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer   Thanks Hayley

I don't uderstand your last message.  All I want you to do is download the file, copy it to some kind of removable media, take that removable media to the problem computer, copy it there and run it.
