Unable to install Modem drivers
When I install the connexant drivers, it says failure at the end. What's wrong?
I'm using the Inspiron1100 laptop.

I got the exact same problem.
My Dell Inspiron 1100 ship date is 9/8/2003.
I re-installed XP home edition on a re-partitioned hard disk. Tried installing both the Conexant and PCTel modem drivers multiple times; both would not work.
Maybe they have the wrong drivers listed for this modem in their download support section?

Go to the following web site and download the latest driver for the Broadcom V.92 56K modem:
http://www.modemsite.com/56k/bcm.asp
Scroll down the the Dell section for all OS drivers for this modem...even for Linux!
I installed it on my Dell Inspiron just now and it installed correctly and I can query the modem successfully.
It looks like Dell goofed on the driver listing on their download support site. It's a Broadcom modem, not a Conexant (in my case, at least).
Guess you can use the drivers listed at this web site until Dell fixes their links.
P.S. Is it Dell that has those commercials with all the Interns doing the real work? hehe...they must be working on Dell web site.

Thank you Wayne,
I can't wait to see if this works. I received my Dell Inspiron 1100 last week and deleted the existing partition, created a new one and installed XP pro. I had the same modem problems as everyone else. From last Wednesday through Friday I put more than 20 hours into this problem with no luck. I also talked to 4 different Dell techs. The first one recommended that I download new drivers; didn't work. The second rep suggested I start over and put XP Home back on the laptop. Not happy to hear this but I tried and once again it did not work. The third tech, Derrick, took me through every possible fix. He was very patient and helpful. Unfortunately, after trying ever software fix we could think of, a new modem is in the mail. Even though both of us felt it was not a hardware problem there was nothing else to try. I am very pleased to see that others are running across the same issues that I was having. I tried several different drivers with no luck. The Dell Techs, especially Derrick, did an excellent in trying to help me solve this problem. The only frustration I have with Dell is that the brand/make of modem in my laptop is unkown to Dell. We were unsure of which driver to load; the PCTEL or Conextant. I felt that Dell should have known what components were installed in my laptop. Even though I put more than 20 frustrating hours into this problem I am glad I went with Dell. Anyone can assemble pc's and sell them, it's the businesses that offer excellent customer service that stay in business. Thanks again, It sounds like this driver will work.

sgoel,
I went to the web site Wayne pointed us to and downloaded the following driver and it worked great.
Newest - V.92 Data/Fax/Voice version 3.5.24 for Windows Me, 2000 & XP.
Note: Prior to this version, V.92 Modem-on-hold required 3rd-party BVRP software. With this driver version, BVRP MoH software should be uninstalled prior to driver install/upgrade. This driver version has MoH built-in to the driver.

i did install the same driver, before installing it I have reoved the previous driver. is there something additional software to be removed. What is BVRP? I did not find it in the list of softwares installed. More to it when i try to install the V.92 Data/Fax/Voice version 3.5.24, it says no supporting hardware was found. Seems like i do not have the same modem type as others. when I remove the driver and restart the computer, it say new hardware found and list the hardware as PCTEL. It may be possible that the driver I am trying for PCTEl is also wrong since it is also from dell website.
