Lita545,

Some websites use different types of images for their websites. Depending on what they use, sometimes the pictures can be opened and sometimes not.

Try this first. Right click on the problem picture and left click on open with. Then choose open with Internet Explorer but do NOT have the box checked to always use this program to open they types of files.

Does the picture show? If so, then right click on the picture and save as, then give it the name of your choice.

I usually use IrfanView to open my jpegs.

Thanks for responding.

When I right click on ANY picture online, my options are:

1.  OPEN lINK
2.  OPEN LINK IN NEW TAB
3.  OPEN LINK IN NEW WINDOW
4.  SAVE TARGET AS
5.  PRINT TARGET
6.  SHOW PICTURE
7.  SAVE PICTURE AS
8.  e-MAIL PICTURE
9.  PRINT PICTURE

10.GO TO MY PICTURES
11.SET AS BACKGROUND
12.CUT
13.COPY
14.COPY SHORTCUT
15.PASTE
16.ADD TO FAVORITES
17.PROPERTIES

None of them give me the option to choose 'open with Internet Explorer'.  But I'm not sure I SHOULD have to do all that even if I could.  Why can I not simply right click a picture and save it to my computer?  And it's not just ONE picture, it's ANY and all pictures - I've tried MANY different Windows, Vista, and MicroSoft websites to download and save a simple .jpg picture and found there's no way to get a picture.

And what about Google Earth?  I downloaded it but it's not there.  Am I having a downloading problem?  Is there a fix, or should I return this computer?

Lita545,

If you're just trying to save the picture, then it's save picture as. I thought you already saved the picture and it was in a format that didn't open.

Lita545,

I just tried to save an image that I posted on facebook. I clicked on the picture and made it big. I then right clicked on the picture, left clicked save picture as and gave it a name and saved it to my desktop. If you save item to your desktop, you can then alway cut and paste them(or copy, paste, then go back and delete after you know there where you want them) to the place I want them.

If you know what you named the picture and are just having trouble locating them, then try downloading and installing The top link at Search Everything, it will search your computer for the file(s), image(s) that you're missing. The cut and past them to your desktop, then put them where you want them.

I installed IrfanView. After you install it, then right click on these images, left click open with, the select IrfanView. If you cannot find it, then click up one folder button and look through the program files folder for IrfanView. You'll be looking for i_view32 application. Make sure to check the box to always open these type of files with this program.

As for Google Earth, the file that you downloaded is called Google Updater, the program must be in there.

I'll try to explain again.

When I try to save any .jpg picture to my computer (such as Windows Vista Wallpaper, etc.), I right click on the picture.  Then I click on option "Save picture as".  I save it as myname > pictures, or I save it somewhere else like just c:.  Then I go to the Start menu, pick Pictures, and the file I just tried to save will be there.  When I try to open it, it always says "Photo Gallery cannot open this file; file may be damaged or corrupted."  Or it tells me to update my Photo Gallery files.  I already downloaded the newest version of Photo Gallery, but it didn't work; I still have the problem.  I first noticed when I could not get photos of my daughter from Facebook, but the rest of the pictures have been many different .jpg pictures from trusted MicroSoft sites.  I am simply not able to save and view pictures and photographs anywhere on this computer and would like to know why.

About the Google Earth, I downloaded it but it doesn't appear anywhere on this computer.

I'm wondering if there's a defect in the computer or if these problems can be fixed.  For instance, since the files insist on using Photo Gallery to open them, and Photo Gallery refuses to work, is there a way I can disable Photo Gallery so I could possible save a photo or picture to the c: drive?  If it's a problem with downloading, is there something I can do to enable downloading?  I'm willing to give this a chance to work right.

Ok.  I went to Facebook, chose a .jpg photo of my daughter, enlarged it, right clicked on the picture, left clicked to save picture as, gave it a name, and saved it to desktop.  I then went to desktop, clicked on the picture icon which was there, and got a blank with the message, "Photo Gallery can't open this picture or video.  This file format is not supported, or you don't have the latest updates to Photo Gallery."  I then tried to save the same photo to Computer > OS(C:) >  and got the message that I did not have permission to save picture there.  So a made a new file in c: called Wallpaper and saved it there.  Same result as above, Photo Gallery couldn't open it.  The MicroSoft Windows Photo Gallery will not allow me to view my photos.  I will try to download and install your IrfanView and let you know if Photo Gallery stops taking over my computer.

As for Google Earth, I downloaded it, located the Google Updater, but nothing was showing as downloaded or installed on it.  There was nothing to run.

Lita545,

First, let's make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially .net framework, needed to run many applications and the latest Java.

To get Google Earth CLICK HERE

As for facebook, HERE is the link to my page. Please ask to be my friend. I will accept, then try making one of my images bigger. Right click on my image, save as, save to your desktop. Now try to open the picture.

What happens.

Lita545,

Were you able to save one of the images that I posted on my Facebook Wall?

Rick,

I think I figured it out!  It's a lot more complicated than with my other previous computers, but I think I can live with it!  One thing I was doing wrong was not naming the pic.  Anyway, what I have to do is:  name the picture and save pic in myname > pictures.  When I do that, it DOES give me the option to open in Internet Explorer, which I do.  But, it doesn't give me the ability to change the size of it, which I need for the stuff I do in genealogy (census images, etc).  So, I found that if I copy the pic to Paint, then give a new name and save, it also will appear in Pictures and then I'm able to enlarge it or not.  Whew!  But I think this one is solved.  However, by doing this, I guess I'm bypassing around Photo Gallery and PG doesn't work for some reason.  But it's not the Dell I don't think.  I'll continue trying to figure PG out.

Now, to try to figure out Google Earth . . .

Thank you!

Lita545,

Infanview has the option to resize pictures. You can change them by dpi, inches or centimeters.
