Unable to View Wireless Networks

Hello forum, I have an Inspiron 600 with Intel PRO/Wireless. It's been working great, but wouldn't you know:  I am just a few weeks beyond the one-year service agreement and as of this morning: Unable to View Wireless Networks. "No available networks were found in range" -- this is not true...mine is 2 feet away, and a neighbor's is close as well. It says  "Make sure the wireless switch is on." When I go to Wireless Networks/Properties/General/Configure, the wireless is ON and all seems to be working fine. I've clicked all around and nothing seems out of the ordinary.

NOW _IF_ the card is broken and I need to replace this, HOW can I troubleshoot to confirm this without having to order one? I am in a small town in Japan and I want to make darn sure that is what the problem is before I go through the order process only to find out that the problem is something else. Is this common? Is it common for a Wireless card to give out after one year? Much appreciated, Amy

The Wireless switch is Fn + F2. Perhaps it was turned off by mistake. Have you rebooted your router, modem and computer and checked all the connections?

Mary thank you so much! I was fiddling with my function keys a few days ago, and I must have inadvertantly disabled it. It would be helpful if an error message could say that, but I guess that's an Inspiron-specific issue, not XP. Much appreciated, my faith in forums is restored. they can be so overwhelming!

cheers

Hi Mary

You wouldn't happen to know what that switch is in a Dell Latitude E5400 is - would you?

Thanks

M
