Unidentified network

The network center says I am connected to a network but it never identifies it. The sent packets also stays at 0.

I installed Norton antivirus which did not work so I uninstalled it and now I am having trouble connecting to my network.

Which version of Windows? How are you trying to connect to the network (wired ethernet or wireless)?  Has this network ever worked on this machine before?   When you uninstalled Norton, did you do the complete uninstall as recommeded on the Symantec web site?

Just to be completely clear - It worked before, but stopped when you uninstalled Norton Antivirus?  Is this correct?  You completely uninstalled Norton - please explain the steps you took to do this.  Was it just Norton Antivirus or the completel Norton Security Suite?

I cannot see you computer from this end of the internet, nor do I have the ability to see your history.  The more detail you can provide, the better I can help you.

It worked but I have always have trouble with identification of the network. It was a free trail of the security suite which did not work so I used add/remove programs to get rid of it.

I also tried reinstalling vista but it did not help. I also tried using an old modem and that did not work either.

Norton (Symantec) has always had trouble with Add/Remove programs not completely removing the product.  I strongly recommend that you go to the Symantec Web site and use their method for COMPLETE removal of the product!!

You are indeed connected because you are reading this message.  Download it to the computer you are using and then transfer it to the problem computer using removable media (USB flash drive/CD-R/RW).

I tried downloading the removal to a disk before and it did not work, however I tried again and it did. That did the trick. Thank you for all of your help.
