Upgrading a home network

Question

I run a Dimension 4550 and an Inspirion 8200 on a partly functional home network, using a Linksys 802.11b wireless router. Even reading all the good help messages here, I still can't get file sharing/printer sharing to work, so can I get a new a/b/g wireless router (recommendations, please)that might make this easier?  Will I need to replace/add any internal components to the desktop and/or the laptop, to facilitate this? Many thanks for advice.

Most home networks don't work because of configuration problems not hardware issues. If you don't have file and printer sharing then you don't have a home network. Have you tried running the wireless networking setup wizard in control panel? Read the instructions? Visited the Linkys website on Home Networking? They have a good tutorial.

Thanks, Byker.  I've run the automated set-up so many times I think I know it by heart; but I haven't checked the Linksys site.  I do have an Internet connection, which I thought was half the battle.  I'll get back to you after I try the Linksys stuff.
