Can you list the Networking Protocols loaded on each machine?  My guess is there is soemthing loaded that is not needed by one or the other.

Under the Advanced Properties tab for TCP/IP on the XP machine, make sure that NetBios over TCP/IP is enabled.  How are these two machines connected.

I have enalbe Netbios over TCP/IP and after 2-3 days of observation, still problem is there. I have also noticed that after having few hours of idle time all network drives (network connections) gets disconnected and on attempt to access it, It reconnects and then loads the network application. This I have come to know by issuing "net use" command at command prompt. (F/Y/I)

Thankx,

Does the QoS Scheduler have a check mark next to it?  If not, check it.

I have exact the same problem. Yesterday I received 2 Dimension 2400 systems. One is working fine the other is only able to send/receive with 35-50 Kbit/s (running ftp). They are connected to the same router/switch. I have tried to switch the cables between the two system, but the problem is still there. I have also uninstalled the antivirus. So if you find a solution to this slow network connection please let us know.

Sorry Sport, but I am out of ideas, other to ask if this is the original onboard NIC?  Do you have the manufactirers drivers installed or the Microsoft version?

What about the drivers?  Manufacturer of Microsoft?  It wouldn't hurt to check those out.

The NIC is Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller and the installed driver is Broadcom Corporation , Ver 3.60.0.0, Driver Date 05/15/2003

Thanks,

If the speed has not changed, how was the problem fixed?  I think I know what you meant to say.  This is somewhat similar to what dialup modems experienced when you you set the maximum connection speed really high and when the connection coould not establish a connection at that speed, it would drop the connection, in essence, auto sensing the speed necessary to make the connection rather than dictating what speed the connection must be made at does seem to help.

What is the distance betwen the two computers?  Are you sure you have the QoS protocol installed on the WIN2K machine? That would normally not be necessary.

Have you run any Spyware programs on either machine to see if something is hogging the bandwidth?
