Wifi DNS issue XPS 13" 9350 Broadcom
Hi,
I recently bought the Dell XPS 13" 9350 (Win10 Pro), great machine but once on wifi it's terrible. Browsing the net is sometimes work for a few minutes but then some of the below errors occur, it seems to be DNS related;
- DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET
- ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT
- ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED
After a minute or some the page can be loaded but again it's only work for a brief moment. With other devices I don't have any problems. Also my former Win7 laptop keeps working fine.
With a wired connection none of these problems occur, same DNS server is used. I spent already several ours on the net finding a solution but without any success;
- Configured wireless adapter power settings
- DNS flush
- IP reset
- WinSock reset
- Reboot router
- Configured Open DNS setting
I have all latest drivers i.e. Bios, Chipset, Broadcom installed.
Thanks for any help.
Regards Tom

I have the same problem, whenever I go more than a few feet from my router I lose the WiFi signal completely. I paid a lot of money for this machine (XPS 13 9350 Laptop) and as I travel quite a lot, the whole point of buying it was to be able to use it wherever there was a WiFi connection.
I'm not technically minded at all and i really don't want to go messing around with settings etc therefore I when I purchased it I assumed it would arrive without any of these problems.
FYI (if you are reading this Dell) my smartphone and Kindle have no problem connecting to WiFi and this is a BIG issue for me, so unless the problem can be resolved, and quickly, the machine will be returned for a refund!!
Not very happy....

I have the same problem with my one month old XPS 13. I cannot keep an internet connection for more than 5 minutes at a time. I have disabled windows firewall and the factory installed McAfee.
I will return this laptop if I am unable to resolve this issue. All other devices including audio streaming devices maintain a strong permanent internet connection so it is isolated to the XPS13.
For over $2000USD I am disgusted with how poor this laptop is performing

Hi Jesse,
Unfortunately the options you suggested didn't work out for me, I've found the thread in advance of my initial post.
I think the issue is somehow related between my NetGear R7000 NightHawk router and the XPS. On our top floor I've connected a Cisco AP [Cisco WAP4410N], this AP has a wired connection with the Netgear router.
When connected to this AP I don't have any DNS problems at all, so then it works all fine for me.
In order to fix the issue when connected to the router I've flashed it with DD-WRT firmware but this didn't fixed the issue. Now I'm back on the most recent Netgear firmware.
You can imagine it *** really I can't use my XPS wireless properly :-(
Thanks Tom

Hi,
So...as I don't expected a solution from Dell somewhere in the near future I went for a more radical solution.
I ordered the "Intel Centrino Advance AC 7265 PCI E m.2" card and replaced the original Broadcom wifi card, and guess what, the wireless connection is now fast and rocksolid and works perfectly with my Netgear Nighthawk router.
For a product what costs this much you would expect the hardware would work flawless, but it's not. I can imagine some connectivity issue can be related to specific user setting but in my case (and it will be for much more people with wifi issues) a hardware swap was needed. I was able to do this myself but I think not everybody is enthousiast to open his/her brand new expensive ultrabook.
So Dell, what do you say...can I get a refund for the broadcom card?

just bought mine less than a week and that's the first thing I've noticed was the wifi issue, then blue tooth, then battery life. It took me about a month searching for the best ultra book laptops & I decided to go with XPS 13 9350 over Asus Zen and Lenovo Yoga 700 hoping I wouldn't come across any issues. I'm keeping this laptop for a month and if these issues are not resolved, I will have to return this & switch with another brand.
