WiFi driver on E6420 Win7 64bit

This laptop came with Win7 32-bit on it.  The company standard is Win7 64-bit.  I have installed it with no problems except for the WiFi: when I install the driver I get this message in the Device Manager Properties window and the WiFi radio does not work (Intel software says no devices exist):

Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required
for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have
installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might
be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)

The device is Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6205.

Is there an updated driver that I can install to get this to work?

Thanks,

John

I tried installing the latest version of that driver - 14.0.something - and it gave me the "unable to verify digital signature" message.  The one you pointed to - v13.5.0.- does not even recognize the hardware.

I got out another E6420 to see if I could use the drivers from that one and found out that it was preloaded with Windows 7 32-bit instead of the Windows 7 64-bit that the previous E6410s were preloaded with.  That seems to indicate that there are no drivers for 64-bit Windows 7 on the E6420.

Can anyone confirm that?

If that is true will 64-bit drivers ever be available for it?

Hi Vatchy,

Welcome to the Community. The support site does have Win 7 64bit drivers for the Dell Latitude E6420. Try the below link to install the wireless driver for your card.

Hope this helps.

Thank you

I have already tried that one and it gives me the same message: "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device."

I got the driver to load by pressing F8 at boot time and selecting the option: "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement".  This allows the driver to load even though it is unsigned or the signature is invalid.

John,

When you installed Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit) did you install the desktop/notebook utility and the chipset drivers first? If not the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order If you cannot find Windows 7 drivers, then try using the Vista (or XP) 32-bit drivers, for Windows 7 32-bit of the Vista (or XP) 64-bit drivers for Windows 7 64-bit and install the drivers in the Compatibility mode

Thanks, but the problem is an unsigned driver, not a missing driver.

I just got my E6420 and there are only Windows XP 64 bit drivers for download in the drivers section.

And those fail saying I am using the wrong drivers for my OS. But there are no Windows 7 64 bit drivers...

Strange thing is that when I filter for only Windows 7 64 bit the XP-drivers still appear.

Could someone at Dell wake up and look into this question?

Thanks, that was the link I needed. Dell should have put that one in the list. I tried so many of them with no luck. Dell has always been known for certain drivers being diffucult to findfor certain PCs. I wish their search filter was better for drivers based on OS.

That was the last one, not its off to ebay.

7.5 CPU

7.5 Ram

6.3 Graphics

6.3 gaming Graphics

Just freashly formatted and tweaked.

I ran into the same problem - i drilled down into the download options and selected this particular download and it worked on my windows 7 64bit machine.
