WiFi networking doesn't receive data

Dear Forum,
I just restored my daughter's old Latitude C600 back to Win2K, SP2, using the Dell disk, after upgrading her to a C610.
After installing a PC card WiFi adapter which works fine on my XP machine, if failed to connect because it sent but didn't receive any data. I tried another adapter, whose software allowed me to see that there was an IP address assigned, and it successfully pinged the access point, but had the same problem.
I had the same problem with my old laptop, a Latitude CPX-J, when I converted it back to Win2k.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks.
Dan

did you pull the power cords from the back of the modem and router for a minute? now pull the modem in for 30 sec then the router.

I tried resetting the router/modem, without success. It fails the same way with another access point, too.
An Ethernet PC card in the same slot works fine.
Thanks for your help.
