Windows 7- Inspiron 6000 No Wireless

wow, you got windows 7 on your I6000, well done. I didn't think they would even take Vista.  I'm afraid I don't know what to say about the wireless driver, how is windows 7 working with everything else you have? My only thought is that maybe there is another wireless card whose driver will let you connect, unless someone else knows where you can get a better driver.  What router do you have?

Unless you can find a Windows 7 driver on Intel's site, you may be out of luck for now. Not many (if any) manufacturers release drivers for Beta software.

Here are the Intel drivers, but they only support XP 32-bit for the 220BG adapter. So you can try installing in "Compatibility Mode" for XP sp2.

Well, I'm a little late, I guess - I hope by now you have found a solution.

My experience with my Inspiron 6000 laptop went something like this: I loaded Win 7 and connected to my router via Ethernet. Win 7 got a bunch of updates, among them a driver for the Intel Pro/ wireless 2200bg. After update completed and restart of laptop I had a wireless capability. I encountered other problems of course, but no show stoppers. I was surprised at how well Win 7 ran on this machine. I have not delved into Win 7 in great detail but have seen enough that I will consider buying it after it has been released, provided it is not too pricey.

Thanks to the OP and Jas461 for your information. I was just toying with the idea of installing W7 RC on my Inspiron 6000. I didn't want to install/run it on my main desktop or my Mini 9.  My 6000 has been running XP Pro on an upgraded 2 gb RAM and 120gb drive.  I realized I still have the original 60gb drive that came with the 6000, so I will swap that with the current one and format it.   Looking forward to running 7 on the 6000. :emotion-11:

Edit:  Okay, I've installed Windows 7, and everything seems to be working fine, except that my sound card isn't being detected, therefor no driver can be found for it. Anyone know where I can get a compatible driver for the Realtek sound card?

Edit again:  Nevermind...fixed the issue. I just went to Dell's support site and downloaded latest audio driver for inspiron 6000, and installed it. I now have sound! :emotion-21:

Please tried loading the driver files from the DRIVER folder using WIN XP compatibility mode: Dell/drivers/R155386/XP/drivers and open iProdifx to intall the drivers. Restart WIN 7.

Just got the wireless to work using the 2200bg driver from intel.

It only worked if the downloaded file was uncompressed to a local folder before running.

Sound worked great from the start, but the Alps Touchpad was a different story.

I got it to work using the driver from Toshiba

Version 7.2.303.107

This worked perfectly and right away, thank you. Wireless is working now.

james iam also using dell 6000 inspiron, and insalled win7 recenly, so from where i can find the drivers for audio, video, wifi and blutooth?

you can find the drivers for audio and graphics for the inspiron through the dell website.  But can some body help me with the wireless. I tried everything listed above but my wireless still won't work. Thanks!

Hello Bfogelstrom. I have Windows 7 on my Laptop. It is an Inspiron 6000. I recommend downloading the driver from the Intel site, and if you don't have wireless when you start up, and want to use Ethernet, you need to download the Ethernet Drivers from the Intel site. Also, when I installed from my computer (On Windows XP fully booted up) I installed Windows Vista with all my files in the Windows.old folder, my wireless surprisingly worked! So if you have an I6000 with Windows XP, either download Vista or 7 and install while booted up. Click the setup.exe file. Then let it install and your wireless will work. EXCEPT, You need the sound drivers (Windows XP Drivers worked fine with me) and You can't have your programs. You have to reinstall them

It's so nice to see everyone pretty much on this page has windows 7 running good on there inspiron 6000 because I've been told by so many people online that it can't be done. I have my i6000 maxed out on everything, even the stupid battery! Now I want to put Windows 7 Ultimate in it. So it seems like the best thing to do is just boot up 7 while xp is open so it uses the drivers it needs from xp that it can't find for 7? Like 3 weeks ago I did a factory restore on a friends HP4420s 320GB HD 4GB Ram dual core processor etc. Anyways, I love that option on Windows 7 where you can make a flash drive or an SD card into "extra ram". I took my 4gb Sandisk SD card and made it a boot file for ready boost and it made that laptop boot up from ice cold off to flipping through firefox tabs in 22 seconds!! I just hope that program works on my I6000 some what because the 2GB of ram max is the only thing that makes me nervous about 7. Well I have a intel celeron 1.6GHZ processor in my inspiron 6000 and another thing I was wondering and read was that the processor's in I6000's is just plugged in with a screw lock and not soldered and you can buy a bigger 2.6ghz processor and just unplug one and plug in the other, boot the bios up right before you shut it off to do this so it works when you turn it on?? Anyone have any idea's about that? Thank You!!

This worked perfectly!!!!! Thanks Klevis. I tried to install Win7 Ultimate on the 6000 about 5 times and it would not work. I went back and did the 32bit home premium and it loaded fine. It did not install the wireless, audio or video drivers. After downloading and unzipping the folder to the desktop and running it, the wireless installed. Thanks again! This definitely works for the wireless driver. The Alps Touchpad worked as well. Good post.

Hey I have an inspiron 6000 to that I put Ultimate in. Actually I'm one of the people from above and was under a different name. I got an email about your response. LOL must have been a while ago. Anyways, I didn't like the way the Dell would run with Win 7 Ultimate because it lagged so much. You def are going to have to go to a website called what to turn off to make win 7 run faster. It was getting so bad at one point I even had the desktop and all the performance opions turned off. The ones I kept are where like the bottom 4 that makes the windows look like 7. I would go to the part where you can adjust if you decide or windows decides how to make your pc run better. Click the Perform faster option that unchecks everything then check the bottom 4. Another little trick I used was taking a 4gb SD card and turning it into half ass ram using ready boost. I'm sure you know how to take flash drives and SD cards and turn them into ram using readyboost. Well there not exactly ram. The last thing I found was firefox runs TERRIBLE on the 6000 with Utimate as the OS unless you have everything I talked about turned on and it will still lag. All the stuff I did was after a fresh install and almost no programs on the HDD so I know its lagging problem wasn't from anything else. Let me know if you need any help or drivers. I used driver update I got off Pirate Bay for free. You can use it once then delete it and it will find all kinds of crazy drivers that I had no clue were out there. PEACe
