Windows Managing my Wireless Network

Question

When I go to my Wireless Connections nothing comes up because I guess Windows isn't managing my Wireless Connections. I get the message Windows cannot configure this wireless connection. I don't know what else could be managing my wireless configuration. How do I let Windows manage again???

Generally if it's not windows, then it's a utility that is specific to your card.  If you have an intel wireless card, it's likely the ProSet software.  If you have a Dell branded true-mobile card, then Dell has their own software.  Generally such software will have an icon in the systray (small icons in the bottom right corner).  Hover over everthing down there until you find it.  Once you get the name, you can close it, stop it from loading when windows boots, or uninstall it all together.   Specific instructions will vary depending on the card and software installed -- but basically, you need to disable it if you want windows to manage.  Alternatively, once you find this 3rd party software, if you decide you like it better than windows, it's perfectly fine to use it to manage and control your wireless card.

Windows used to manage it though and it just stopped...there isn't anything in my system tray to do anything with wireless...except windows....my wireless isn't even working...but when i go to try and use it it shows no available wireless (even though there should be like 10 because all my roommates have several options) and then when i click on Change Advanced Settings the Wireless Connection Properties window opens, but there isn't a connection tab....

Do you have Wifi turned on if so you will see the Wifi LED lit. If not turn it on using Fn+F2 keys.

Also make sure only one utility is managing your wireless card. So you need to disable one of the programs try disabling the Dell Wireless WLAN utility. Open the program on the first tab make sure "let this tool manage your wireless networks" box is unchecked , see below

You should now see windows displaying your wireless networks.

Does anyone know how to turn on the Intel Wireless Card? Like turn the radio on so that the little upside down cone thing shows up by the clock?? It is green when the signal is full, and it turns yellow and red I think. Sorry, I'm really not that stupid...but I've tried everything and used the troubleshooter every way possible and nothing works. I've uninstalled my Wireless Card and reinstalled it, I've reinstalled the router and the cable modem, etc. The weird thing is, a couple weeks ago I went to a friend's house and it automatically connected to the internet and worked fine, but It still said that no wireless networks could be found, but I took it to my boyfriend's apartment and it didn't connect to internet there, and I came back to my apartment and it doesn't automatically connect to anything here. I don't understand.
