You are required to know the encryption key on the router you are trying to log into.  If it is not your router, there is a reason it is encrypted - to limit access to those who belong.

The wireless router is mine. I have entered the encryption key number from the bottom of the router, but no joy.

The encryption key is not anywhere visible on the bottom of the router.  It is code entered into the router's wireless security configuration.  Try reading the documentation that came with the router.

I have looked through the small amount of paper work that came with the router and nothing refers to an encryption key. The paper work only refers to the configuration cd and the number identified on the bottom of the router. How can I find the encryption key.

I think you are missing the whole point here.  If the router is yours and you have not entered an encryption key in the wireless security setup of the router, then the encryption is not enabled on the router.  If you entered the key in the wireless router's setup, then you will need to enter that same key when you configure a wireless network card on a computer before it will be able to communicate with the router.  Please explain exactly what it is you are trying to do.  Unfortunately, their is no documentation for the TM2350 router on Dell's support site.  I am relying on you to reading the manual that came with your router.  It is probably on the CD.

Steve is right. You must search the CD-ROM installation disk for the answer. The instruction booklet suggests incorrectly that after you have the secured router set up all you have to do is pop the installation disk into the other computer that you want to allow on the network. Wrong.

The help section in my installation disk listed the IP address of the router as 192.168.2.1, Check yours to be sure it's the same.

Using a wired connection from the computer to the router (or an already successfuly connected wireless computer)  type this address hppt://192.168.2.1 into the Internet Explorer browser.

It will bring you to a log in screen.
 The user name is: admin
The password is: admin    (all lowercase)

Next click the Basic Settings tab and then Wireless Security from the drop down menu.

The mystery of the WEP Key is now revealed (you thought you forgot to write it down during the installation process - but you didn't ever see it)

Hope this helps.

I am succesful at installing my new 2350 router on my desktop (wired). For some reason, I cannot get the wireless light to come on at all. Only when I reset the power. I am trying to set up a wireless game adapter for my xbox and my new laptop (Inspiron 9200). I have gone through and through the setup for the router. 1) Am I supposed to put my WEP 26 encryption code in each key spot? 2) Even if I turn off WEP security, it still does not recognize any wireless devices. I even brought my brother's wireless laptop over. To no avail. What am I doing wrong? I plugged the little wireless game adapter directly into the back of the 2350 so it would learn the IP address, etc. Still, no wireless light blinking and the adapter just searches and searches for a wireless router out there. Thank you for your help.

i solved this problem. I returned the DELL 235o wireless router. Ordered a Linksys. What difference it made. The dell is too confusing to set up. The Linksys works right out of the box and the encryption setup is easy.
The other problem i had was doing the return.  Everytime you call for assistance, you get routed to India. This solves nothing. Both parties cannot understand each other and I am exhausted from being on hold to begin with. To top it off, you have to repeat yourself over and over again to get something done. Horrible customer service on Dell's part. Microsoft has the same problem. Only their business customers had enough, complained and now they get customer support from the good 'ol USA.  Home users are still stuck with outsourcing customer support overseas to save a buck at the consumers expense. Oh, by the way, router was recieved by dell (via tracking number) awhile ago, still haven't been credited my money back. How much do you want to bet it was a communication error?

Love DELL products, not customer support.

bensjamin,

You should be able to see the key in your router configuration.  Open a web browser and type http://192.168.2.1 into the address bar.  That will get you into the web based configuration utility.  You should be able to find it there.  Unfortunately, Dell has not put the online users guide on their web site, so I can't tell you exactly where to look in the configuration utility, but you should be able to find it.

Are you doing this from a wired ethernet connection to the router?  It will not likely work from a wireless connection if the wireless connection doesn't work in the first place.

I am having a similar problem, but mine is I have already confirmed my WEP KEY when I first installed my Wireless 2350 broadband router, but due to a system error I had to re build my entire system and now for the life of me I cannot remember my WEP KEY and I failed to right it down. I contacted DELL and they told me I can get it but have to sign up for support assistance for year.

Is there anyway you no that I cant get this information.

cheers

You won't be able to get into your router's configuration settings through someone else's wireless router.  The IP address accesses a web page that resides on your router, it does not reside on the internet.  If you attempting to do this through someone else's router, the best you can hope for is that you might be able to access the configuration settings on that person's router - not what you want.  You need to connect to your router through a wired ethernet connection.
