Wireless Access Point and wired router (no-network)

Hi-- I know this is pretty basic, but I currently have a couple of non-networked computers hooked up to a router (connected to my cable modem). I'm not interested in networking at this point, but I am going to get a laptop and want to be able to use it downstairs. Do I just buy a Wireless Access Point thingy and attach it to the router? Is it more difficult than just plugging it in or do I have to do all kinds of techie stuff besides? Thanks! Carolyn

Wireless access points cost a lot more than a wireless router.  Why not just replace your router with a wireless router.  It will serve both purposes and be much easier to deal with.
