wireless card and settign up new router

Question

My laptop is an XPS M1710 with Windows XP.  While trying to set up a new router (Linksys EA4500) the Linksys tech suport person said my wireless card may not be working or may need updating and to contact Dell.   This laptop worked fine a week ago connecting to the internet via a 3-year old Linksys wireless router which I had set up without any problem at a different house.   How do I confirm that this is correct?  I spoke briefly with a tech. at Staples who said this would be very unusual.  Thank you.

AGSmith,

I suggest using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings I use channel 11. I would make a new SSID to make connecting easier.

The XP machine will not connect to WPA security until you have XP SP2 or XP SP3 installed. XP and XP SP1 does NOT support WPA Security.
