Wireless card freezes during heavy use

My Intel Pro/Wireles 3945ABG wireless card in my Inspiron 6400 freezes during heavy use, such as a file download. The card doesn't appear to be disconnected, but the internet doesn't respond. Any attempt to reconnect or repair the connection fails. Windows XP says it cannot enable the card.

The same problem occurs with both the Intel wireless utility and the native XP utility.

Do you have the latest drivers from the Intel web site?  Have you set the power management settings on the wireless card to always supply maximum power?

I've got the latest drivers. How do I change that power management setting?

Fortunately, I've never used one of the Intel wireless cards (because I read these forums every day) so I have no experience, but I think you need to open the Intel Wireless utility and change the power management settings there.
