Since you've pretty much ruled out any hardware and software, its pretty much got to be interference. Do you have any other devices that operate in the 2.4GHz band? Microwaves? Bluetooth devices? Anything which might absorb or wreak havoc on the signals? Is the router sitting in a Pine bookshelf? Do you have stucco walls?
Might also want to update the firmware on your router if you haven't already.
