Wireless Connected but no data received

Can you ping internet sites.  Go to Start Run and type cmd then hit the Enter key.  In the window that opens type ping dell.com and hit the Enter key.  What happens.  Now type ping 143.166.83.38 then hit the Enter key.  Report back what you find.

I am staying in a hotel and i get dynamically assigned IP adresses every time. Its something like 172.17.XXX.XXX

To help troubleshoot this problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

What IP address do you have?  Is it one within the range that your router would assign?  Are you sure you are connecting to your router and not someone else's?

Yes i had tried that earlier on yahoo.com and tried now as well on 143.166.83.38.

I dont know what power cycling a laptop means. Do let me know what that means.

 

No i can connect as many laptops as many as i want using same password at same time. Both the laptops were connected at same time for last two weeks. The whole hotel uses the same password to conect.

Can you ping the gateway - 172.17.1.1  ?

 

Can you ping the DNS server - 4.2.2.1  ?

 

Do you need a password to access globalsuite.net, which is apparently the ISP at the hotel?

 

Have you checked with the front desk at the hotel to see if they are having a problem?

Have you powered cycled the non-working laptop?  Is it possible that you can only connect one computer at a time using the same password?

I have the password and everything and my second laptop is connected using same wireless connection and is sitting right next to my dell laptop.

 

Even this DELL laptop was working fine for last two weeks using hotel wireless connection. Its suddenly stopped working yday evenin..

I have done that many times .. No luck

When the network you are not connecting to is not your own, it is very difficult to diagnose the problem.  Have you tried temporarily disabling any firewalls you have running?  Have you tried booting to Safe Mode with Networking support to see if you can connect that way?  This would tell you if there is something running in Normal Mode that is preventing the Internet Connection.  Are you getting a different IP address on the non-working computer than on the one that works?

Tried disabling firewalls .. Tried running it in safe mode with networking .. nothing works ..

 

Both the laptops have different IPs
