Hi, all. I've searched the forums but can't find an answer to my question
I just recently received my Inspiron 9300, and out of the box the wireless networking went perfectly. Unfortunately due to some unimportant circumstances I had to reinstall Windows XP, but before I reinstalled I started having these problems below, and I hoped a reinstall would fix this situation.
The problem I'm having is the wireless card(IntelPRO 2200) connects perfectly fine to my router. However, I still can't access the internet or anything else like ftp.
After I wirelessly connect to the router, I have two icons; One is the Intel Pro software icon which lets me connect to the router. It says "Connected to linksys"
"Signal quality excellent" The other icon says "Local Area Connection" "A network cable is unplugged"
In Network connections both the 1394 Connection, and the Wireless Area Connections status is "Connected" The local area connection(Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller) says "Network Cable Unplugged".
I've tried disabling the Broadcom Device, but that just gets rid of the icon, it doesn't connect me anywhere.
No firewalls are running. And I can ftp into the router with 192.168.1.1
Like I stated earlier I had no problems out of the box, which I believe should eliminate the router as a problem. And I'm 99% sure I've reinstalled all the proper drivers.
The Local Area Connection is your ethernet adapter and it says that the cable is unplugged because the ethernet port is not plugged in to anything. This should not cause any problems at all. Since you are making a wireless connection you don't need to plug the ethernet adapter into the router. If you disable the Broadcom adapter in Device Manger, it will come back the next time you boot. Again there is no reason to get rid of it. If you ever need to connect to the router through a wired ethernet connection, it is essential that you keep the Broadcom adapter. Again, if you having problems with the wireless connection, the "problems" you describe with the Broadcom adapter are not what is causing the problems and what you describe is normal.
