Wireless disconnects and reconnects constantly

I am having problems with my Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card network adapter. I am able to connect to the wireless network, but it continually disconnects and then reconnects. If I am loading a web page and it happens to disconnect at that moment, then the page is not found. But when it reconnects, I am able to reload the page and get it if it does not take too long to load. This happens at various locations with wireless networks such as a university, a hotel, my relatives' home. But it works fine on my home network.

I noticed that this is not a problem at my school at least, if I connect at home and then put the laptop into hibernate mode and then run it at school. If I reboot at school though, the problem resurfaces.

I am running Windows XP on a Dell Inspiron E1505. Does anyone have answers for this problem? Thanks.

Do you have any 2.4 Ghz cordless phones that may be interfering with the 2.4 Ghz wireless signal?  If so, then set your router to use one of the extreme channels (1 or 11) to minimize the interference.  If this doesn't help, you need to tell us which router you are using and whether or not it is running the latest firmware.   There have been numerous problems reported recently with newer wireless network adapters and old routers.

If you have Intel Proset and/or Dell Quickset uninstall them. That solved my problem

Thanks. I uninstalled Dell Quickset and it seemed to fix the problem. I went all day without any hassles. But when I rebooted the computer the next morning, my computer ran a CHKDSK because of some error and now the problem has returned. The message I received when the computer ran the CHKDSK was "Inserting an index entry into index $0 of file 21176." Any ideas?

Thanks. I disconnected the wireless phone and it did not help. The wireless router is brand new, so I don't think it's a new/old compatibility issue. I did disconnect Dell Quickset which seemed to solve the problem (see other post) for a while, but it has returned. Is there any other issues I might think about? Thanks.
