Wireless disconnects every time land line rings.

This never happens with my husbands laptop from work (not a Dell) and we use the same wireless router.  Any help?  The whole point of a wireless laptop is so I can multitask -- not so I can get disconnected every time a presidential hopeful calls to solicit my vote. :smileymad:  Is this a phone problem? Computer issue? Is there anyway to change the frequency of either the phone or the laptop? TIA!

Is it a 2.4 Ghz cordless phone?   If so, change the channel that the router uses to one of the extreme channels (1 or 11 if in the U.S.)

The frequency thing is a good thing to check if you are using a cordless phone.

If your internet connection is dropped completely (i.e. all computers lose internet access/the lights on the modem indicate no internet) then it maybe one of these issues:

Two other things to check:
1) Microfilters. This plastic adapter goes into each of your phone sockets and splits/filters the data and the voice calls. It basically stops them interfering with eachother. They should be on all sockets even if the modem is not connected at that particular socket.

2) REN. Check you have not exceeded the maximum REN for your line. I believe that the max ren you should have is 4. Each phone, fax, modem will have a ren number on it. Some use 1 some use 1.5 or even 2. If you find that you are using over 4.0 ren consider swapping out a device that uses 2 ren for one that uses less or you may just have too many devices.

If only the laptop loses connection then it is more likely the frequency of the cordless phone as indicated by previous poster.

Thank you!! We figured out how to change the channel of the modem and it worked like a charm. I appreciate your help. I never would have known to check that on my own.
