Wireless for Dell 966 Printer will not work

I just purchased two computers and a printer brand new from Dell - an Inspiron E1705 and E1505, and a 966 All-in-one printer with a wireless card.  The computers are running Windows Vista Home Premium.  The idea is that we can leave the printer on and make it available on th wireless network so that we are never dependent on the other computer or have to be hardwired, etc.  After installing the printer drivers and the wireless card according to the directions (I followed them literally), the printer will work fine but only as long as it is attached by the USB cable to that computer.  The wireless does not function at all.  However, if I type on the address of the printer in the address bar of Internet explorer, I can access the configuration page for the printer, meaning that the wireless card is communicating with the browser.  I have spent over 10 hours on the phone with various Dell technical reps (literally!), but all they do is keep re-installing the drivers (from the CD, from the Dell homepage, etc).  We are getting nowhere, and I do not want to pack up all this stuff and return it because I have had enough of the frustration.  Can anyone help?

What is the model # for the wireless card? Does the wireless card have a MAC address on it?(not the printer) Is this a Bluetooth wireless card?

The wireless card is model "Dell 966 Internal Wireless/Ethernet Adapter - YY300."  It is connected to a Linksys Broadband Router.  Not Bluetooth.  I don't see a MAC address anywhere on the card itself or in the configuration pages. The printer thinks it is connected to a network (according to the cinfiguration pages), I just can't see it from my Windows Vista Network settings.  This is driving me crazy, any help would be really appreciated.

There are 2 types of wireless network configurations, Ad-Hoc and Infrastructure. Is the wireless card utility configured for Infrastructure Network? Also, I noticed there are only updated Vista drivers on the Dell website for 966 printer and 3300 wireless print adapter. Not, Yy300 adapter? That may be contributing to your problem, as well...

Maybe you need to purchase a 3300 adapter?

Hi,

I have the Dell 966 printer. I got this printer 3.5 years ago. I have the Wireless card. I have always had a hard time setting up and printing through the Wireless card. I previously have installed this printer under WinXP 32 bit and through the help of dell tech supporti was able to get wireless printing to work. But it will only work if I trun on the printer first and then my computer. I am now trying to install wireless printing on a Dell Zeno HD 64 bit and I can not see the printer on my network. And I can not install the Driver. I can print just fine using USB. I have all network setting set correctly. I am using WPA network encription and I entered the correct network key,.The printer says it gets ca network signal. I also know that I setup the correct Workgroup name IP address and Subnet Mask. The driver software will not detect the printer.on the network.  USB printing works just fine as it always have.

Will Dell ever fix this problem!!! :-(

John,

Let's start in the begining.

Make and model of your wireless router, please.

What type of security are you using?

What channel?

Mixed mode?

Make and model of the computer with issues and operating system. 32-bit or 64-bit?

Rick,  I want to put a wifi internal adapter in my v305, what model # do I look for on these sites?  And how do I look up the wifi adapter on Dell's website?  My v305 seems like it is ready for the adapter to be plugged in. So help me please, contact me at <ADMIN NOTE: Email id removed per privacy policy>, thanks Bruce

Bruce,

Checking to see if I can find the part number and/or a link for the wireless adapter for this printer. A wireless print adapter would also make this printer wireless.
